Pefki
The beautiful traditional village of Pefki (which means Pine trees) is only 7 kilometres from Makrigialos and has panoramic views down the valley to the Libyan Sea.
Given the size of the village and the number of permanent inhabitants it has a tremendous amount to offer.
You can visit
• Stavromenos church perched high on a hilltop looking down on the village.
• The folklore museum which is situated in the old school behind the village to the north.
• The Vreiko Caves where traces of Neolithic habitation were found.
• The village "launderette" exactly as it used to be hundreds of years ago where your position at the water trough was denoted by your pecking order in the village - the nearest to the water inlet got the cleanest water!
• The 90+ years old pink perppercorn tree imported from Egypt.
There are a couple of small tavernas which serve local specialities.
Pefki is also the starting point for the stunning Pefki Gorge walk. This is an approximate 2 hour walk down to Aspros Potamos and then on to Makrigalos.
